Patent right

Sometimes, at the most unexpected of times, you will come across an unique solution. This can range from preparing your breakfast to the working of all sorts of complex machines. By thorough thinking, refining your idea or invention and looking at things from a new perspective your idea or invention could be the next best thing on the market.

What can I protect?

In many cases your idea can be described in a patent. Without protection your idea is "outlawed". This means that anyone can use, apply or imitate your invention.

By having your invention or idea protected by a patent you will have the exclusive rights on using your invention. This way, others cannot market the same or a similar invention without your permission. With a patent, your technical capability and creative efforts will get the appreciation that they deserve.

For a patent a 'new' concept is of the greatest value. If you have already showed your invention, sold it or advertised it you will not be able to obtain patent rights. For a patent right goes that absolute discretion is absolutely necessary.

Where does a patent right apply?

Usually we will advise you to have your invention protected in the country where you are located and where your most important opportunities for marketing lie.

The registration of a patent in the countries of your choice can be realized in several different ways, with every way having its pros and cons. Examples are the European patent, or the international (PCT) registration. In consultation with you we will draw up the optimal coverage of countries, including the corresponding procedure of registration. Of course we are completely up to date with the ins and outs of each procedure so we can customize each patent application for you.

For how long does a patent right apply?

Patent rights are not everlasting. In general the maximum time period of protection is 20 years. Every year you will have the opportunity to decide whether or not you want to maintain the patent right. We, of course, will inform you ahead of time when the one-year-period is ending.
