SolMateS is a fast-growing high-tech company that was established in 2006 as a spin-off of the Twente University. In 2007, SolMateS has invented a new coating process called Large Area Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD). With this process is it possible to coat nearly every desired surface with a steady thin layer of material. This technique is, for example, used to apply piezoelectric materials to generate movement on a chip, and for future generations, printers, hard-disks and ultrasound equipment. Besides that, it is momentarily used for optical usage. Inaday for SolMateSBy designing an installation that could apply this process on a commercial scale, SolMateS ran into all sorts of limitations of existing techniques and equipments. For this, SolMateS designed all sorts of inventive solutions. These solutions, and the coating process as well, are described by Inaday in several patent applications and have been filed worldwide.
